Why the hook? Because I’m a pirate. Obviously.
Nah, it’s because I started this blog (in its previous incarnation) when I was a crocheter and had not yet learned the joys of knitting. Or the joys of a startlingly huge yarn stash.
When I was a wee lass, my Mom tried to teach me to crochet. I, being the type to run around outside chasing frogs and chopping down trees, resisted and only learned to chain. (I still have the huge ball made of a long, long chain somewhere…) In 2003 I had no way to buy Christmas presents for my boyfriend or my roommate, and I was sad. In desperation, I swallowed my tomboy pride and asked my mom to teach me to crochet for real. I learned in an hour or so, and went crazy with it.
About a year and a half later I learned to knit (after being intimidated by the thought of two pointy sticks instead of one convenient hook), and am loving the heck out of it. I come from a long line of fiber artists (crochet & frugality on one side, knit & quilting on the other) and love to see my grandmothers’ influence in my work.
I still crochet, although knitting has become my craft of choice. I’ve thought of changing the blog name, but am lazy / love the name too much / can’t think of another one.

You’re a pirate; your husband is a ninja. Sorry, but ninja’s totally kick pirates a$$es. I am an office ninja, and I work with an office pirate, and I could TOTALLY take him!
