Those pics are gross. Ain’t home ownership grand! We’ve been fine without a softener and love not having to take care of another thing that could cause more problems.

@Carolyn - no, we didn’t buy the water softener. We’re still debating the merits of renting one vs. not even having one. I grew up with hard water (”A water softener is a LUXURY!” — my Dad), so I’m not too bothered.

@Margaret - the inspector did turn on the outside spigot during the inspection, and the water did run clear then (I was there). I think the gunk was in the pipe closer to the water softener and because the spigot hadn’t been turned on in a REALLY long time, there was clear water sitting really close to the outlet. As we ran the water lots more on Sunday, the gunk moved along the pipe toward the outside. And into my life.

those pictures freaked me out enough… i can’t imagine if i saw them in person! yuck! gross! so glad it was no biggie.

just curious: did you have a home inspection before you moved in? wondering how they wouldn’t have caught that…
