My blog is starting to wonder if I love it anymore. Since I made new friends with Ravelry and Facebook I share all my thoughts there but not here. If reality is the over-achieving oldest child, and Facebook is the cute and funny baby, my blog is the ignored middle child.

I swear I’ve been knitting! But you would have seen that on Ravelry (if you knit and are on Ravelry). I swear I think up some hilarious things to say using few words! But you would have seen that if you were on Twitter (maybe not) or Facebook. Oh blog, you poor neglected vehicle for my pictures.

This is a flower from my aunt’s wedding bouquet, ripped by the bride herself from its floral foam at the end of the reception and given to NinjaHusband and me to press. We pressed it for a good 3 months or so under heavy law books and a Rubbermaid storage tub full of heavy things.

This is the boring storage solution we have on one wall of the kitchen. BORING! It ruins the line of the paneling and crowds the floor. I’d like to put in some nice shelves, but the Ninja doesn’t belive me when I say it would be awesome. I took this picture to allow whoever reads my poor neglected blog to weigh in and give me your best wall-based storage solutions. Don’t all rush at once!

The plan on Wednesday for our Friday dinner party. The menu was a hit, even with the meatiest of meat-eaters. Win!

The view outside the children’s entrance of the library, heading home. I’m kind of shocked at how well this turned out, especially because as I type this it’s dark grey and gloomy as hell outside. And has been since 2pm. Stupid gloomy weather.

The dinner party ended with cupcakes, dusted while on the cooling racks with confectioner’s sugar.

This one looks all gothic castle-ish, which I got after fiddling with the camera settings quite a bit. I haven’t had the chance to Photoshop any of my pictures lately; this is all in-camera.

One of our local veterans spoke about his experiences as a dive bomber in the Pacific during WWII. I really enjoy working with this veteran, he’s such a great guy.

On Wednesday, another of our local veterans spoke about his experiences in WWII. He was an Army man, a gunner on a half-track at Normandy, and he’s always a delight.

On Thursday we took Heather’s kids out for a movie and when we returned them to her we got to see the havoc the cat has wreaked upon herself. Look closer — there’s no hair on the cat’s legs. WTF!!?!

Festival in Montmartre by Severini. We went to the Art Institute in Chicago on Friday, ate delicious dinner at the Chicago Diner, and heard about the birth of a tiny awesome baby on the way home. More win!

Saturday we cleaned out the garage so my car would fit in it. This piece of crap was there when we bought the house; I started taking it apart and the particleboard slats just folded. Soaked with something gross, I think. This little alcove holds our big garbage can now.

Sunday, still working on the garage. This is a huge spider’s egg nest/sac/thing. I about puked everywhere. Gross.

I don’t know where these weird little marshmallow cookies came from, but they really brightened up my desk.

On Saturday we went out to Nachusa Grasslands, about an hour west of us. I took a bunch of pictures, most of them variations on a theme of HOW BROWN IS MY VALLEY, but I really liked this one. The framing kind of hit the mark exactly.

The baby that got borned on November 13th, wearing a hat I invented, knit, and finished on the drive up to meet her.

….

Now I’m off to figure out how to make Thanksgiving not be crazy. Luckily we are zombie-free at the moment, so we’ve got that going for us.

The Big Read is done! My life is my own again! I may even get to write something that doesn’t have to do with my pictures.

Monday rain, on chain link fence top. This is the fence I park against every day, and as I came out of work I realized I hadn’t taken any pictures for the day. I stood where I’ve stood every work day and looked around — everything looked like something I’d already snapped, until I stood parallel to the fence and looked up at the top rail to see the rain drops hanging down below. The red reflected on the rail is from my coat.

Tuesday I came in early for work and was able to catch these leaves on the wall. It rained a bunch last week, so the sky was all grey and dreary and lit the leaves really well.

This might be my favorite picture I’ve taken all year. Walking in to work just before 8:30 on Wednesday morning, with fog rolling about and the light getting all diffused. I didn’t process this picture at all, and I’m so in love with it. There was another I took just before this one that was good; I stood in the middle of the road and snapped a shot of this same view, but on the horizontal. I think this one with the strong vertical of the tree trunk on the left, the branch moving up and to the right, and the road moving away toward the left really make this picture sing. Of course, I had none of that in mind when I took this. “Ooh, pretty!” is my basic thought process.

Very low light, driving home in the rain. This time it wasn’t me driving! This was somewhere in the 5th street block of Lincoln Highway in DeKalb, I think, and the light made pretty pictures with the rain and darkness. I get a bit abstract sometimes.

Another forgot-to-take-a-picture picture. I tried to photograph Miyagi’s back, because she looks like a dark teardrop with a tail, but she turned around on me and gave me this priceless look. “Seriously? Enough with the pictures!” She’s going to start charging me.

After the crazypants of Halloween, we visited our friends Court and Jamey and their son. There were some really good ones in this bunch, but I love the look wee E. has on his face here.
